This week at Housing Works we’ve got something for everyone, every night: storytelling, tales of Britain, a lit mag party (we love those), Russian literature, and beers. Everything is free; well, not the beers, but they’re pretty cheap and, as you all know by now, Housing Works beers are good deeds.

  • Tonight we’re proud to host the MothSHOP Showcase, featuring storytellers from the Moth Community Outreach Program. $5 donation at the door.
  • Tuesday, May 22, we’re grabbing a cucumber sandwich and a Newcastle — we’ll have both available! — in celebration of Granta 119: Britain, which you’ll remember was declared highbrow-brilliant only last week.
  • Wednesday, May 23 Moonshot magazine celebrates its newest issue with a bunch of great readers: Richard Kostelanetz, Dawn Raffel, Victoria Redel, Terese Svoboda, Chloe Caldwell and Skye Tyler.
  • Thursday, May 24, the Festival of Russian Arts comes to Housing Works for The Return of the Great Russian Novel: The New Russian Realism with the winners of the Debut Prize and moderator Liesl Schillinger. The New Yorker and TONY both think you should come meet the next Tolstoy.
  • Friday, May 25, is the last Slush Pile of the season! But that’s OK, because starting next Friday, 6/1, happy hour becomes happy day as we celebrate that glorious publishing tradition of Summer Fridays. Get out of work early and come drink in our bookstore!

Plus, all week, it’s the Cookbook & Gardening Spring SaleWant to make sushi? Grow flowers? Bake cupcakes? Turn your fire escape into a farm? We’ve got hundreds of new and special stock books for all your food and garden needs, all 30% off already discounted prices.
