Next Thursday, Tumblr will be celebrating Book Expo America at our favorite bookstore with three of our favorite authors! This is a meet up for readers and writers of all ages, with drinks for the adults and swag and short, funny readings for everyone! Here for BEA? Work at a publisher? Love Tumblr? Love books? Love people? Any of the above — this party is for you!

Ruth wrote Defriended, a creepy mystery about murder and online romance. Eliot wrote Endangered, a National Book Award finalist about bonobos in The Congo. Rainbow wrote the NY Times bestseller Eleanor &Park, a Tumblr favorite about weird kids in love. They are all terrific, so don’t miss it!

Rainbow Rowell lives in Nebraska, and this is her only public event while she’s in New York for BEA. We’re so honored and excited!

We listened to feedback about the first ILYG speed dating, and hope to make this one even better than the awesome first installment. And we’re inviting queer ladies according to demand and to celebrate Pride Week; we’re happy to host a M4M speed dating, if you’re interested in an event like that please let us know! Tonight, we welcome the MothSHOP Community Education Showcase, a night of stories from this season’s Moth workshops in high schools and marginalized communities. The store won’t close, and the event is $5 suggested donation, so come check out some of the amazing work the Moth does teaching folks how to tell their stories.
Tomorrow we have another storytelling event: Native Tongue, a celebration of the Islamic storytelling tradition with American Muslims’ stories of heartache. Free, 7PM.
Wednesday we celebrate the new literary zombie — yup, zombie — novel from Two Dollar Radio,A Questionable Shape, with author Bennett Sims as well as Fiona Maazel and Benjamin Hale. Free, 7PM.
Thursday the Moth StorySLAM presents a special Internet Week NYC edition with the theme “Technology,” hosted by Dan Kennedy. The store will close at 6PM, doors at 7PM, $8 cover at the door. Get in line early, it always sells out!
And Friday is the last Slush Pile of the season (and the last Friday before summer hours start kicking in!). Join us for great specials in the cafe and kick off your weekend.

I work around the corner from the Housing Works book store. If you’ve ever looked at this tumblr (you should), you know I like weird old books and I get a lot of them from this awesome store. Not only is it a charity that supports people living with HIV / AIDS but everything they sell is pretty affordable. HW is also really good at posting signs in their window about all kinds of upcoming events. Yesterday, I happened to see on my commute that they were having a book release party for Adulting: How to Become a Grown-up in 468 Easy(ish) Steps by Kelly Williams Brown, with performances by Julieanne Smolinski, Lindsey Weber, Christine Friar, Caragh Poh, John Asante, and Meredith Haggerty.

If you don’t know, Julieanne Smolinski is @BoobsRadley on Twitter. She’s hilarious, interesting to read, and a fan of The Best Show, so I figured I’d go see if she was as funny in person, as she is in print (She is. Maybe more so). All the performers were great and funny about being bad at being adults.

Here’s the author, Kelly Williams Brown, in trippy lighting, rocking a killer dress (and I don’t notice dresses).
