“We just have that luxury of being able to do long stories,” he said. “And as it happens, while other magazines are doing shorter stuff, The New Yorker and Businessweek and The Atlantic and others are really thriving as a place where if you’re a reader, you can go.” (via ‘Businessweek’ editor won’t say whether they’re making money, describes the ‘luxury’ of doing long pieces | Capital New York)
The Longreads panel events are some of my favorite at the store, and this week’s with Bloomberg Businessweek was no exception. We’ve got copies of this week’s Businessweek magazine for FREE, stop by and check ‘em out!

This week is relatively light on events, but they are both awesome. Plus we have tickets on sale for some great events next month!
- Tonight, get your Longreads on with Bloomberg Businesweek; this event is part of Internet Week New York City, which kicks off today. Free, 7PM.
- Tomorrow is the legendary Moth StorySLAM. The theme this month is “Human Resources.” Get in line early, this event always sells out!
- Plus, tickets are currently on sale for the spring installment of our “Best of New York“–winning series, Safe Space, which pairs classical musicians with some of our favorite authors. On June 28 we welcome novelist Nicole Krauss and pianist Simone Dinnerstein. Tickets are only $12. This is one of my absolute favorite events we do, you should definitely come out.
- And I am SO excited to finally announce the opera we’ll be hosting in June! We’ve got three nights of A Weimar Flute, a production by Morningside Opera combining the literature of Weimar Germany with Mozart’s A Magic Flute. Opera, in a bookstore. Once in a lifetime chance, it’s going to be amazing. Performances June 11, 14, and 18 and all are benefits for Housing Works.
