Librarians: we know you’re stuck sitting in a chair most of the day. Why not get fit with this insane, super bizarre librarian workout from 1987?!

The Betty Glover Librarian Workout ad is awesome. It has: Van Halen music (and so much other great 80s music that it’s impossible to list it all), an old lady (Betty Glover) with a riding crop (and this predates Fifty Shades of Grey by over 20 years!), and librarians exercising. (via Betty Glover Librarian Workout Tape Ad (VIDEO))

This, including riding crop wielding, will now be mandatory procedure for all HWBC booksellers.

Conversations with Women | About

In a recent article in the New Inquiry, Emily Cooke has dubbed them the “new semi-autobiographers.” Them: Kate Zambreno, Sheila Heti, Eileen Myles, Dodie Bellamy, Chris Kraus. They narrate their inner lives. Making their mess public (blood stains and all). They unearth the political from the personal; everyday as a revolution. Every sentence as an utterance against the silencing of the feminine. This uncensored self as a profound feminist act.

What if it weren’t just writers? What if it were all of us? Women, writing ourselves in, writing to each other, writing. Sharing.

This is what I want: I want women (writers, artists, thinkers, secretaries, doctors, lovers, human beings) to share their conversations with other women. There are two rules:

(1) It must be a conversation with another woman or women — e.g. letter, email, telephone call, IM, text message. The format can be: image, video, audio, text.
(2) It must not be fictional. It must be an actual conversation.

Home No. 5: EAT YOUR FEELINGS: Stories of Food, Jews & Your Mom, November 1

jamiatt:

Speaking of readings, did I mention that I am having a Manhattan launch party for The Middlesteins at Housing Works on November 1? It will be called EAT YOUR FEELINGS: Stories of Food, Jews & Your Mom. It is sponsored by the great people at Tumblr, who will be providing free drinks.

Look who will be joining me!

Coincidentally this actually also falls on my birthday and I will be 29 years old (I will not be 29 years old) so come celebrate!

This will be so, so great you guys. Save the date.

surisburnbook:

Have you missed the Jolie-Pitt family’s unique styles since they’ve been abroad? Screen-printing, Justin Bieber’s old haircut, Angelina’s weekend-Maleficent clothes … I haven’t even missed judging them.
I can’t believe we ever let these people become celebrities.

Tomorrow! Here! Free! Suri’s Burn Book (Allie Hagan) + F*ck! I’m in My 20s (Emma Koenig) + Tumblr + Free Drinks + you, obviously, because that = Awesome.

Missed last Thursday’s panel on anonymity, privacy, and identity on the web for Hacking the Future? Here’s the whole thing on video. SPOILER ALERT: There wasn’t actually a guy named Homer, WTF.

Posted one day late because I can only assume you were all barbecuing yesterday while I was laboring away at reading the entire bookternet for you. It’s cool.

“The website gets a lot of traffic on Tumblr, with most posts generating more than 100 re-bloggings or “likes” from other Tumblr users. So what started out as a trend for the villains in a movie, something that made them seem over the top, has now turned into an accepted way to critique the lives of others.”
